For the Master’s Performance Practices, we are looking for a:
Lecturer Performance Studies (theory)
(0,2 FTE)
The MA Performance Practices at the HOME OF PERFORMANCE PRACTICES and ArtEZ University is currently looking for a lecturer who can offer theory classes in Performance Studies and support our students in their critical thinking and academic writing. As a lecturer, you will offer group classes for first and second-year students. You will coach and support individual students to conduct their own research and write academic essays.
What will you do?
You offer group theoretical sessions in Performance Studies for Master’s level. The group classes will take place in intensive blocks during the residential periods. During the non-residential periods, you organise individual tutorials with students and are involved with giving feedback and marking.
You guide and coach individual student trajectories by supporting them in finding ways to conduct research, engage in critical thinking and write academic essays/articles.
Help students understand and engage with academic writing standards and ethos.
To this end, you organise individual meetings with the students and participate in regular meetings with the Head of the programme as far as your assignment is concerned.
You play a crucial role in assessing the students’ essays.

The HOME OF PERFORMANCE PRACTICES at ArtEZ University of the Arts is an incubator for artistic research around the Body in Performance and its wider Ecology. Within its setting of de-disciplined and diverse thinking, the HOME promotes performance-making as a strategy for equitable societies.
At the core of the HOME is the accredited MA Performance Practices. The programme is at the forefront of rigorous artistic and intellectual enquiry and facilitated by a team of internationally renowned practitioners and researchers. Students design rigorous lines of research, investigating, challenging, and reshaping the role of the artist, contributing to the advancement of performance in their chosen field.
What do you bring?
You have extensive professional experience as a Performance Studies scholar
It’s a plus if you have a PhD and have published your own book(s) or article(s) in peer-reviewed academic journals
You have experience in teaching at a postgraduate level
You are interested in working with international students
You are proactive in reaching out to students and can keep track of a fragmented agenda
You are punctual when it comes to writing reports, preparing assessments, reading documents coming from the students
You are interested in being part of a bigger (international) team and being involved in the continuous development of the programme together with the lecturers and the team
You live in the Netherlands or at a distance from Arnhem that enables commuting
Your English is excellent in speech and writing
What do we offer?
We offer a temporarily contract for 1 year of 0,2 FTE. In case of good performance, your contract can be extended. The gross monthly salary is at least €4.535,76 and at most € 6.359,47 (Lecturer B, scale 11) based on a 36-hour working week. In addition to an informal and open working atmosphere, we offer attractive employment conditions according to the collective labor agreement for higher professional education CAO-HBO.
